CCL QF: CS Herediano vs LA Galaxy (3/7)

CCL Quarterfinals

CS Herediano vs LA Galaxy

Thursday, March 7, 2013

Estadio Eladio Rosabal Cordero

Kick-off: 5:00 p.m

It’s time to hit the road for the LA Galaxy. Just days after the 2013 MLS season got underway, the Galaxy will shift gears and head down to Costa Rica for the first leg of CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals. The Galaxy’s opponent is Herediano, who went undefeated during the group stage with three victories and a draw. With ten points, Herediano won their group, which also included Tauro and Real Salt Lake.  With the same record and amount of points LA came out on top of their group, going undefeated against Puerto Rico and Metapan. The LA Galaxy reserves played the group stage for the most part, and went into the final meeting already qualified into quarterfinals. Even though the reserves got the Galaxy through the group stage, Bruce Arena has stated that he’ll be playing the best team he can put on the field.

In the previous edition of CCL, the Galaxy was surprisingly eliminated by Toronto FC in quarterfinals. Now, the Galaxy will be looking to make it to semifinals for the first time since the new CCL format was introduced.

In their local league, Herediano is currently in a three-way tie for third place, earning 15 points in 10 games. Club Sport Herediano’s last game was this past Saturday, and their 2-1 victory improved their record to 4-3-3. On the other hand, the LA Galaxy’s season just got underway. With a goal from Robbie Keane and a hat-trick from Mike Magee, the back-to-back MLS champions kicked off the 2013 campaign with a 4-0 victory.  The Galaxy’s next game will take place next week when they host Herediano at the Home Depot Center in the second leg of quarterfinals.

  • Let’s hope Bruce takes our best players. Herediano is 10 games in their season, in much better form than LA. Let’s hope we come back with a good result. at least a draw!

  • 2-0 LA victory.

  • jsykes

I hope LA runs riots. But I’d settle for a 2-0 win or a draw with some away goals.
