LA Galaxy vs Colorado Rapids
Saturday, March 23, 2013
The Home Depot Center
Kick-off: 7:30 p.m
On Saturday night the LA Galaxy hosts the Colorado Rapids at the Home Depot Center in week four of the MLS campaign. Coming off a draw against Chivas USA, the Galaxy will look to get back to winning ways against the Rapids, who were also held to a draw against Real Salt Lake this past weekend.
Due to World Cup Qualifiers, the Galaxy will be without two key players: Omar Gonzalez and Robbie Keane, who will be both representing their respective countries. With their absence, the door has been opened for other players to get some playing time. The question of who will start at forward with possibly Jose Villarreal and who will partner with Leonardo at center-back remains, and there are plenty of options for Bruce Arena to choose from. This past weekend Jack McBean scored his first goal of the season just minutes after entering the game as a sub, and Chandler Hoffman has also been discussed as a possibility up top. Out of all of the MLS clubs who will be playing this weekend, there are only two who are unaffected by call-ups to Qualifiers, one being Chivas USA and the other being the Colorado Rapids.
There is a lot of pressure on the Rapids. Not only has Colorado not won a game so far this season, but the Rapids have failed to defeat the Galaxy since October 2010. Colorado will be without starting goalkeeper Matt Pickens this Saturday, as he had to leave last week’s game early due to a collision with a player from RSL. The result was a broken arm, and Pickens is expected to miss 3-4 months.
