StubHub Center

Kick-off: 8:00 p.m

The second ‘SuperClasico’ of the season takes place this Sunday night when Chivas USA hosts the LA Galaxy at the StubHub Center. Currently on a slump, both teams will be looking for a victory and improving their position on the Western Conference standings.

This past Wednesday night the LA Galaxy played the Portland Timbers to a 0-0 draw at home. With the draw the Galaxy ended a two-game losing streak (three in all competitions), but has not had a victory since the May 26th game against Seattle. Although the Galaxy managed to maintain a shutout for the first time since that same game, the offense once again struggled. Since the game against the Sounders, the Galaxy has managed to score five goals while conceding ten.

After a decent month of March for Chivas USA, everything has gone downhill. The Goats are back where they have found themselves to be too often in their MLS history, sitting in last place in the Western Conference. Chivas has lost eight of their last nine games, their last victory taking place in March. With ‘El Chelis’ gone, the goats are now being led by Jose Luis ‘El Guero’ Real, but their first game resulted in a defeat.

The first meeting between the Galaxy and Goats this season ended in a 1-1 draw. With a goal from Jack McBean, the Galaxy took a 1-0 lead after finally breaking down the Chivas defensive game plan. Up a man the Galaxy saw the lead disappear in the final moments of the game as Carlos Alvarez tied the game at one. This was only the second time since 2007 that the Goats managed to avoid a defeat against the Galaxy.
