Portland Timbers vs LA Galaxy

Saturday, July 13, 2013

Kick-off: 8:00 p.m

On a two-game winning streak, the LA Galaxy travel to Portland to visit the Timbers this Saturday night at JELD-WEN field. With only three victories away from home the Galaxy will look to continue ascending in the Western Conference standings while the Timbers will be looking to bounce back from just their second defeat of the season.

After blowing a 2-0 lead late in the game against San Jose, the Galaxy has gone on to win two consecutive games at home, scoring four goals and conceding just one. On July 4th the Galaxy overcame a 0-1 deficit against Columbus to win 2-1 on two penalty kicks awarded in the final minutes of the game. This past Sunday the Galaxy was able to break down FC Dallas’ defense and with goals from Marcelo Sarvas and Hector Jimenez, both scoring their third of the season, LA won the game 2-0.

The Timbers’ 15-game unbeaten streak came to an end this past Sunday. Portland fell 1-0 on the road to Columbus, giving them their first loss on the road. Portland’s defeat was the first since their loss to Montreal back in March. While the Galaxy will be without Landon Donovan due to international duty, the Timbers will be without Rodney Wallace, also on international duty, and Pa Modou Kah, who was shown a red card in the game against the Crew.

The Galaxy and Timbers met a few weeks ago at the StubHub Center, a game that ended in a 0-0 draw. That was the first time the Timbers earned points away from home against the Galaxy, and the first draw between both teams. The Galaxy and Timbers are currently third and fourth place in the Western Conference, tied with 30 points.
