The LA Galaxy will begin the second half of their MLS campaign this Sunday when they visit FC Dallas in the same place they took their first defeat this season. When both teams first met in Dallas, the Hoops were on a hot streak, unbeaten in their previous four games and first in the Western Conference table. Now things aren’t going so well for Dallas, who has fallen to sixth place and gone winless in their last nine MLS games.

The Galaxy must turn things around in MLS play in the second half of the season. Not that things are going terrible, as 5 points separate LA from first-place RSL, but the race for the Supporters’ Shield will be thinning out soon. As the Galaxy look for a MLS Cup three-peat, one eye will remain on the Shield and positioning on the table.

With Landon Donovan and Omar Gonzalez back from Gold Cup duty the Galaxy will be in full strength to face the Hoops. The club’s newest addition, goalkeeper Jaime Penedo, was brought in to strengthen what seemed to be the Galaxy’s main weakness.  During the International Champions Cup tournament Galaxy captain Robbie Keane returned from injury, participating in two of LA’s three games. Donovan, Keane, and Gonzalez all scored in the tournament, while Penedo maintained a clean sheet in 45 minutes during his debut on Wednesday against AC Milan.

It has been five complete games in which FC Dallas has been shut out. A total of over 450 minutes. Dallas’ last victory came against Houston on June 12th, and have been slipping down the Western Conference table since. Just like the Galaxy, Dallas will be looking to turn things around in the second half of the season. Only six points separate sixth-place Dallas from first place, showing how difficult it will be for teams in the Western Conference to battle for a playoff spot.
