Cartagines vs LA Galaxy
Wednesday, September 25, 2013
Kick-off: 7:00 p.m
The LA Galaxy have hit the road for the first time during the CONCACAF Champions League campaign and on Wednesday night will face Costa Rica’s Cartagines in a crucial match. If the Galaxy walks out of Estadio Nacional with at least one point, LA will clinch a berth in the quarterfinals.
The game, originally to be played at Cartagines’ home field, has been moved to Estadio Nacional due to Estadio Jose Rafael Fello Meza Ivankovich’s lighting system not being approved by CONCACAF. Cartagines needs a victory in their final group stage match, as this is their last opportunity to make an effort to stay alive in the tournament.
While the Galaxy is undefeated in this edition of the Champions League, LA has been unable to get a victory in Costa Rican soil in previous visits. A win or draw this Wednesday night would automatically qualify the Galaxy to the next round and would allow the team to focus completely on what’s left of the MLS campaign. If all goes well for LA, one would expect a reserve squad to travel to El Salvador to close out the group stage.
