LA Galaxy vs Seattle Sounders
Saturday, September 21, 2013
Kick-off: 7:30 p.m
After a disappointing draw in DC last week and a 1-0 victory over Isidro Metapan on Wednesday, the LA Galaxy faces the Seattle Sounders on Saturday night at StubHub Center. The Galaxy will be looking to get back to winning ways in MLS play and keep up with Seattle in the race for the Supporters’ Shield, arguably one of the hottest teams in the league.
The Galaxy has done well against Seattle at home, losing just one game since the Sounders joined MLS in 2009. In the past 3 games played at the StubHub Center, the Galaxy has defeated the Sounders by a combined 8-0 score, including games in the Western Conference Final and the 4-0 victory earlier this season. The Galaxy is unbeaten in seven out of the last eight games in all competitions, with the loss to Colorado at home being the exception. Currently five points behind Seattle, a win is crucial for LA if they want to keep any chances to take the Supporters’ Shield from them.
Seattle has lost just one of the previous ten games, overcoming the slow start they had and climbing to the top of the Western conference. There are plenty of reasons why the match-up between Los Angeles and Seattle is an attractive one, including the battle for the Supporters’ Shield and the potential face-off between Landon Donovan and Clint Dempsey, assuming Donovan is available to play.
Landon Donovan and Robbie Keane will be crucial for the Galaxy if LA wants to win Saturday’s game. With Donovan and Keane leading LA in both goals and assists, it is clear that they are a nightmare for opposing defenses to play in front of. Keane and Donovan have been involved in most of the last 18 goals the Galaxy has scored in all competitions. When both are on their game, it is undoubtedly one of the best partnerships in the league.
