LA Galaxy @ Whitecaps FC (7/18)LA Galaxy @ Vancouver Whitecaps
Wednesday, July 18, 2012
Kick-off: 7:00 p.m
Viewing Party: Tortilla Cantina
The game between the LA Galaxy and Portland Timbers ended up being a 5-3 goal-fest at JELD-WEN Field on Saturday night. The Galaxy’s three Designated Players led the way to victory, with David Beckham and Robbie Keane having a brace each and Landon Donovan scoring a goal himself. Keane scored his second brace in two games, and is now the club’s leading goal scorer with 8 goals. Donovan and Beckham are next on the list, with 7 and 5 goals, respectively. After trailing early in the game, the Galaxy scored 4 unanswered goals in a nine minute span to earn their first victory at JELD-WEN Field against the struggling Timbers.
Following their second consecutive victory, the Galaxy will have the opportunity to win the third and final game of their three game road trip. On Wednesday LA will face the Vancouver Whitecaps in the second meeting between the two this season. Vancouver has never defeated or scored a goal against the Galaxy, giving up 13 goals in 3 MLS games between the two Western Conference opponents. The Whitecaps, currently in fourth place, traded Le Toux to the Red Bulls in exchange for Dane Richards, and have also announced the signing of Scottish international Kenny Miller. Wednesday’s game will be crucial for the defending champions, as LA needs to win this game to keep the pressure on the third and fourth place teams in the Western Conference.

07-16-2012 #2I think that I’m ready,” Gonzalez said. “I’d like to sit down with the coaches and see what they think is best, but I think that if my name is called then I’ll be ready....despite Gonzalez’s optimism, head coach Bruce Arena is taking a wait and see approach to his star defender’s recovery.
“We’ll see, he’s making good progress,” Arena told LAGalaxy.com. “The part that’s good is that we know that he’s back. He’ll be part of the group in some point in the next month.”
While Arena preaches patience and a potentially longer timetable to his return, Gonzalez expects—at least—to be fully ready for Saturday’s SuperClásico clash against Chivas USA.
“For sure, “said Gonzalez of his status for the weekend. “If Wednesday I don’t play then I’m really pushing for Saturday because it’s such an important and fun game against Chivas.
No update on Magee so far. Juninho will be available, but I'd like to see Sarvas stay in the line-up. Chad's off to Norway (on trial, at least), so our options up top aren't many. If the game is settled with few minutes left, I'd like to see McBean get some playing time.
Is Miller going to be playing for the game?
The statistic of never having scored a goal on the Galaxy is impressive, lets hope Saunders finds his form again and we can keep the clean sheet.
that portland game was fun, lets do that again!
Sarvas was critical on saturday, I like him in the line up instead of Juninho, maybe that'll wake juni up a bit
Magee apparently has a pretty nasty shin bruise or something so if he's good to play he'll hopefully go, if not we'll probably see him on saturday
I'm worried about Omar and turf so preferably he starts on saturday
Is noonan back yet? i miss him, He's a good option off the benchLET'S GO GALAXY
I want Magee to bear my children
Not sure if McBean is better than Charrett, from what I saw in his last game his technique with the ball is lacking.
I hope we repeat the same line-up. I say we let Omar rest more until we play Chivas..
It will be a good game, they have a good home record but LA has been playing really good in away games. Lets hope for a win. 9 point week!
They got some new Des. Players, but got rid of one of their better players (Chumiento). Keep that maddocks kid on check, they didn't play him vs us last time.
Villareal seems to play a withdrawn forward. Would love to see more of him.“I fell in love with football as I was later to fall in love with women: suddenly, inexplicably, uncritically, giving no thought to the pain or disruption it would bring with it.” -- Nick Hornby, Fever Pitch
LA GALAXY – OUT: DF Andrew Boyens (L sports hernia surgery); FW Edson Buddle (R knee surgery); MF Dan Keat (R knee surgery); DF Leonardo (R knee inflammation); QUESTIONABLE: DF Omar Gonzalez (L knee surgery); MF Mike Magee (R shin hematoma); MF Kyle Nakazawa (back spasms); FW Pat Noonan (R quad strain)
In their last game Vancouver went down 1-0 10 minutes in and wasn't able to find the equalizer, even after Chicago was playing with 10 men the last 20 minutes.
don't want to see Omar play tomorrow, but I can't wait 'til he gets back. Lopes just isn't good enough. Just watched the replay of the game vs Portland..Lopes was involved in all 3 goals LA allowed. 1st goal Beckham should have pressured more, but Boyd beat Lopes. Second and third goals came off of fouls committed by Lopes....Saunders should have done better but that's where they all originated from.
That second goal was nasty. What's the difference between a chimichanga, a chalupa, and a tostada? Call me back asap . . . it's urgent.
DAMN!!!!!!!!!! Villareal with a tactical strike missle to tie up the game late. Glad to see our Academy is churning out talent. An exclamation one might say if one were to meet a dragon: "Draco!!!! Strectus, Strectus, Strectus. Mortimus Sum!"
Dragon!!!! Shit, Shit, Shit. I'm going to die!
