LA Galaxy vs Chivas USA (7/21)

    LA Galaxy vs Chivas USA
    Saturday, July 21, 2012
    Home Depot Center
    Kick-off: 7:00 p.m

After allowing two goals less than a half hour into the first half, the LA Galaxy was able to rescue a point from BC Place as late goals from David Beckham and rookie Jose Villareal tied the game at 2. The game against Vancouver culminated a successful road trip for LA, who came back home with seven points after three games. The Galaxy returns to the Home Depot Center this Saturday for the first time since July 4th. The Galaxy, unbeaten in the past three games, looks to keep up with the top four teams in the Western Conference. At the moment, both Seattle and Vancouver are four points above LA.

The last meeting between the Galaxy and Chivas USA turned out to be the defending champion’s first loss against the goats in almost five years. A penalty kick proved to be the difference that game, as Chivas defeated the Galaxy 1-0. When they meet again on Saturday, it will be a battle for fifth place, the last playoff spot at the end of the season. Currently at 27 points, the Galaxy can solidify themselves in fifth place with a win, as the goats are sixth place with 23 points and a loss would widen the gap between the two. After picking up yellow cards against Vancouver, Landon Donovan and David Junior Lopes are both now a yellow card away from having to serve one-game suspensions.

Since the acquisitions of Juan Agudelo and Danny Califf the goats have lost only one out of their last eight league meetings, with Dan Kennedy maintaining a clean sheet in his last three games. Oswaldo Minda will not be available for the goats, as a dislocated shoulder will keep him off the pitch indefinitely.

    LA Galaxy:
    27 points, 35 GF, 34 GA
    8-10-3, 5th in Western Conference
    Home Record: 4-5-1
    Away Record: 4-5-2

    Chivas USA:
    23 points, 12 GF, 18 GA
    6-7-5, 6th in Western Conference
    Home Record: 3-6-2
    Away Record: 3-1-3

    THIS IS LA!

That was a really dumb card to get on Landon's part yesterday, he should have kept his cool. Hopefully he doesn't get carded against Dallas because then he would miss the game at Seattle. With Saunders in goal Saturday, and possibly Omar back, we should win this game. Also Seattle doesn't play this weekend and Vancouver plays san ho, so a win would get us within a point of those two teams. It's all what ifs though.

i still dont know if i would want omar to play the full 90' but at least let him play 45'.

We should just roll over Chivas with the way we have been playing. lets hope its an easy 3 points!

lets go finally win a rivalry game this year, hunh?

    ------------------Saunders------------------
    Dunivant--DeLaGarza-Gonzalez--Franklin
    Jimenez---Sarvas----Beckham---Magee
    --------------Keane---Donovan-----------

if dunivant is not good to go, then Gaul should start and if no magee then stephens

I like sarvas playing because he does what juninho is supposed to do that he's not doing anymore, which in turn frees beckham up because he doesn't have to cover for juninho

    so yea, lets beat chivas

Idk, I still like the idea of a Sarvas, Juninho, and Becks triangle midfield. Any way of doing that and keeping Keane and Donovan up top?

I think donovan is more effective as an out and out striker not a winger
but maybe being a winger would be good for jimenez, his defensive work rate isn't the best

What a fantastic game, easily could have been 5-1 or more. Loving our offense and the amount of chances they are providing. ACB sounded great and looked great.
Climb up the table = possible

Good performance, should have score more goals though!
Gaul was a beast, Juni looked a lot better then before, he seems to play better when paired with sarvas.
When Omar came into the game, the back 4 looked so much better then it had.
    yay beating Chivas

Awesome game! We had a blast!!!! and winning that signed Galaxy ball was the cherry on top! We are now just one point behind Seattle and Vancouver for the 3rd place spot. We still have a shot at the cup, so don't give up!!!!

On a separate note. Does anyone know who packed the EZ Ups? I believe my blue EZ up was put away with the ACB EZ Up. No worries (Thnaks BTW), it's just that I need it for my daughters tournament next week and I just want to locate it.

    That was fun.

It looks like it's back to reality for the goats. Lopes had a decent game, the goats' goal could have been avoided if he had stayed on his feet. We should've won by a bigger margin, oh well. Also, Donovan will miss the game vs Dallas.

Beckham keeps having great games..if the team had been playing like this for the first half of the season we would've been in a better position..but now we can practically jump to third if things go our way and the team keeps playing like it has these past couple of weeks.

Good to see Omar out there again..his header during the corner kick eentually led to the third goal..Gaul looked good too.

The Barra Clasico curse is for real, huh?
