LA Galaxy @ Seattle Sounders (8/5)LA Galaxy @ Seattle Sounders FC
Sunday, August 5, 2012
Kick-off: 6:00 p.m
Viewing Party: El Pescador
Currently one of the hottest teams in MLS, the Galaxy continues to show improvement in the second part of the season. Despite not having Landon Donovan and David Beckham available this past weekend against FC Dallas, the Galaxy was able to bring all three points back to LA, as Mike Magee scored the lone goal to defeat the hoops in Frisco. The game also featured Omar Gonzalez’s first full game since his return from injury, and a clean sheet was the result. On a five game unbeaten run, LA will visit CenturyLink Field this Sunday to take on the Seattle Sounders.
It had been a long time since Seattle had defeated the Galaxy. Since their 2-0 victory in August 2009, the Sounders had not defeated LA. That changed this season, when Seattle took all three points against the Galaxy in May. That game featured an alternative line-up fielded by Bruce Arena, who had to rotate the squad due to a busy schedule. Now, LA will have most of the squad available, with players coming back from suspensions and injuries.
This current Galaxy team looks like a completely different one than the one that played the first half of the season. The comeback from bottom of the table hasn’t been easy, but LA’s three Designated Players sure have made it seem that way. Landon Donovan, Robbie Keane, and David Beckham lead the team in goals and assists. Donovan and Keane have nine goals each, with seven and six assists, respectively. Beckham has six goals so far this season, and leads the team in assists with nine. Also key has been the performances from other players. Since Josh Saunders’ return, the Galaxy has lost two games out of ten played. If you were to ask the Galaxy, they’d admit those two games they lost should have been games in which they came out on top. Mike Magee and Omar Gonzalez have made their way back into the line-up, and right away they have started to contribute to the team’s results. Jose Villarreal has turned many heads, and he will only continue getting more opportunities now that Chad Barrett if off to Norway on loan.
It looks like Seattle is out of whatever slump they were in, at one point going nine games without a win. The Sounders traded Alvaro Fernandez to Chicago to make room for their new signing, Designated Player Christian Tiffert. With a win over the Sounders, the Galaxy can find themselves in third place in the Western Conference. The schedule will get busier in the next few weeks with CONCACAF Champions League starting soon, and the Galaxy cannot afford to drop points in upcoming games if they want to secure a playoff spot. David Beckham remains a yellow card away from having to serve his second one-game suspension of the season.

great game to test our current form. not getting my hopes up, but looking to be a very good competeyive game.-bansky
Playing great as of late, full strength squad (if Bruce decides to play Omar on that shit turf they call a field) and momentum in our favor. Should make for a good game and I hope we can get a result up there.
i also hope that bruce is smart for the real Madrid game and not play or over play our main guys!
If the starters play more than 45 that would tell me that Bruce isn't always pulling the strings or his ego is out of control.
How many subs are allowed in the exhibition game?
My Sounder's support friend made some jokes about last night's game. Now I'm extra hyped for the Galaxy to take a dump on the Sounders.
