LA Galaxy @ SJ Earthquakes (10/21)

    LA Galaxy @ SJ (10/21)
    Sunday, October 21, 2012
    Buck Shaw Stadium
    Kick-off: 4:00 p.m

The Los Angeles Galaxy and the San Jose Earthquakes meet for the third and final time this regular season in another edition of the California Clasico. The season is coming to an end and LA will be playing away from the Home Depot Center for the last time till playoffs start. The previous two meetings between LA and SJ have had a total of 12 goals scored, with the Earthquakes posting come-from-behind wins in both games.

Both losses against the Earthquakes have been in games which Galaxy players felt they should have won. San Jose came back from being down two goals twice, escaping both games with 6 points. With playoff positioning on the line, LA can’t afford to drop any of the 6 points left if they hope to avoid a wildcard game.

The Galaxy’s ten-game unbeaten run in all competitions came to an end just before the International break when Real Salt Lake defeated LA at the HDC. The Galaxy took the lead when Robbie Keane scored the winning Goal of the Week off a perfect cross from Juninho. Espindola would then score twice for RSL in a matter of minutes and the Galaxy would be unable to equalize after. For the second time this season LA fell at home to Real Salt Lake, and once again the Galaxy would give up the lead and end up with no points. The past two games may turn out to be the difference makers as to where the Galaxy ends up for the playoffs. LA was unable to come away with a win against Colorado, which let RSL take a lead, and the loss against them widened the gap.

There have been a lot of questions regarding injuries surrounding the LA Galaxy. AJ DeLaGarza remains out with a knee injury he suffered a few weeks back, while Todd Dunivant also missed the game against Real Salt Lake. Tommy Meyer and Bryan Gaul were their replacements, but a 2-1 defeat was the result. Both Meyer and Gaul participated in the final Reserve League match of the season for LA, which saw the Galaxy win the Western Division championship after defeating the Whitecaps 6-0. Meyer managed to get a goal in that game. Landon Donovan’s status is also unclear, as the Galaxy captain suffered a knee injury in the game against RSL which ultimately left him off the U.S. roster for World Cup Qualifiers. Bruce Arena revealed in a radio interview Donovan had a bone bruise and is questionable for the game this weekend. Robbie Keane suffered an Achilles injury before Ireland’s game against Germany last Friday, but traveled and played for his national team in Tuesday’s 4-1 victory against The Faroe Islands.

    LA Galaxy:
    50 points, 56 GF, 45 GA
    15-12-5, 4th in Western Conference
    Home Record: 9-6-1
    Away Record: 6-6-4

    San Jose Earthquakes:
    64 points, 69 GF, 40 GA
    19-6-7, 1st in Western Conference
    Home Record: 10-1-5
    Away Record: 9-5-2

    THIS IS LA!

The objective is clear! The Gee's need to make a statement and get the win no matter what.

Its obvious if we play the long ball like we have these past two game (since Beckhams been back) we will lose. I havent seen any player in our roster that has been an threat in the air. Find the space, find Robbie and he will find the back of the net.

AND please please please please please please do not start buddle or sub him in. Im tired of reading all these articles saying he is back and sharp like his old self.

A true test to see how we are holding up with injuries, and readyness level for playoffs. This is a must win.

Well, a draw between Seattle and RSL serves LA just about as well as a RSL win. Should the Galaxy and Seattle end the season level on points, the Galaxy will take third due to the goals scored tiebreaker.
