Galaxy Food Drive - Sept 17 Vancouver game

It may be a little too late, but I just noticed the Galaxy Food Drive at tomorrows game...

It seems like piggybacking on and supporting Galaxy charity things might be a way to give us bonus points with the front office... maybe?

For instance: if we did our own food collection at the ACB area and then delivered it in one batch to one of the Galaxy collection spots (of course with an ACB sign on it and took our own pics to post/tweet etc)? Worth trying tomorrow even of the few people that might after such late notice?

Collection Details

Drive Series Collection Booths will be located outside each of The Home Depot Center's entrances.
The collection will begin two (2) hours before kickoff and close fifteen (15) minutes after the start of the game.

SEPTEMBER 17 VS VANCOUVER WHITECAPS – FOOD DRIVE

September is Hunger Action Month and the LA Galaxy are asking fans to join in the fight by donating five (5) canned food items or $5.00 prior to the Galaxy vs. Vancouver Whitecaps game to benefit the LA Regional Foodbank.

Donors will receive a player card signed by Galaxy defender #4 Omar González and a voucher valid for $5 off the gate price of a ticket for the October 1st game. Additionally, donors will be entered into a drawing to receive an adidas LA Galaxy soccer ball signed by members of the 2011 team.

All donations will benefit the Los Angeles Regional Foodbank. For more information on the LA Regional Foodbank, please visit www.lafoodbank.org.

oops - after reading that again I guess everyone would have to deliver their own in order to get the player card/voucher/contest entry...

I'm glad you brought this up. First, I hope we contribute plenty of cans to the food drive. The winter months will be here soon and that's usually when food banks and other charities are at their busiest.

Second, I'm sure there are charities and other causes that many of us support. Perhaps involvement in some of these by ACB members is another great way for us to band together and support the things we believe in--not to mention the exposure that would be an inevitable result of our involvement. Just a thought.

Indeed. As of now we only support the "Toy for tots" one during Christmas. However, I would like to see that expanded at some point.

I would love to see us support cancer, or more really Breast cancer. As a survivor myself and lost family to it as well that is a cause close to me. My daughter and I participated in the Relay for Life event few months ago for our area. I wanted to ask was the team and ACB gonna do a pink night again? The first game I went to last season ACB was in pink and the team was wearing pink things as well for the Breast Cancer event, with only 2 home games left I was wondering cause I look forward to that one. I seen at party city they had white streamer with the pink ribbon on it and was loving it lol.

i heard that last years event was planned within a short time.
maybe this year we can plan ahead and come up with more ideas.
we have plenty of time to come up with something.

Something for Breast cancer has been done, let’s push that one for a yearly event which am sure it has been planned that way already.

They are having a Clothing Drive at the next game. Like at the food drive, if you donate, you get a signed postcard, contest entry, and $5 ticket voucher

Unless anyone objects, I can make a flyer for anyone that wants to donate clothing that they can tape/pin to their donation ('ACB, proud to support the Galaxy Drive Series', etc); so if you want one, find me at the tailgate and I'll give you one. Or of course, just donate on your own if you choose to... (or, we could also organize and all walk over together, but that seems more complicated...)

I'm thinking if we piggyback on things the Galaxy already are doing, we add some might to their cause and make them look better, which would hopefully then make us look better to them when it comes time that we're asking for things or cooperation from the front office. (not that any charity anything is a bad thing...)

OCTOBER 1 VS REAL SALT LAKE - CLOTHING DRIVE

Winter is coming and its time to clean out your closets and donate your gently-used or new clothing, shoes, and blankets to children and families in need prior to the Galaxy vs. Real Salt Lake game to benefit the Union Rescue Mission.

Donors will receive a player card signed by Galaxy defender #20 AJ DeLaGarza and a voucher valid for $5 off the gate price of a ticket for the October 16th game. Additionally, donors will be entered into a drawing to receive an adidas LA Galaxy soccer ball signed by members of the 2011 team.

I have a CRAP load of beanies I hardly wear nowadays. I will be donating those.

I'll bring a bag of things, we are gonna clean out the kids closets this weekend of stuff they can't wear anymore. And I'll go out and buy some hats, gloves and scarfs for this drive and bring them to the game to help out. Just let us know Jon if we do end up doing it together or just dropping it off. I don't care about getting the ticket voucher or anything from them, just glad to help.
